As a certified addictionologist, Dr. Miller is an expert in relapse prevention who has worked in the addiction field for 27 years. He has developed strategies for chronic relapsers to increase their sobriety skills and has developed a new approach to relapse prevention that complements treatment methods that address the physiology of addiction. He has done addiction counseling in private practice, in an intensive outpatient treatment program, in a detoxification program, in a family intervention practice, and in a food addiction program. He has been a consultant to numerous treatment centers, many of them specializing in relapse prevention and/or intravenous amino acid therapy.

Dr. Miller was an associate professor of addiction studies at Graceland University in Independence, Missouri, where he was on faculty for eight years. Before that he taught addiction studies at Park University in Parkville, Missouri, for 11 years. He is currently working to promote integrative addiction treatment utilizing nutrition, acupuncture, intravenous, and oral supplementation therapy, and other alternative treatments. Dr. Miller has studied intravenous amino acid therapy under Dr. William Hitt and Dr. Kenneth Blum and with Dr. James Braly. He is trained in brain wave biofeedback specializing in treatment for addiction and attention deficit disorder.

Dr. Miller has studied the relationship between brain chemistry and such disorders as addiction, attention deficit disorder, and weight management writing about these subjects in books he has co-authored: Overload: Attention Deficit Disorder and the Addictive Brain; Reversing the Weight Gain Spiral; Learning to Live Again: A Guide to Recovery from Chemical Dependency and Staying Clean and Sober: Complementary and Natural Strategies for Healing the Addicted Brain.
